About the Program
Part of Northwestern University's effort to advance international collaboration, Northwestern and the University of Hamburg in Germany are engaged in an ongoing partnership to drive graduate student research collaborations and propel efforts to combat climate change with sustainable solutions. The Trienens Institute is now inviting applications from students in all fields of science and engineering with a demonstrated interest in sustainability, energy, or climate change.
Led by Professor Matthew Grayson, director of the Northwestern Engineering Global Initiatives Four Corners program, the Northwestern-Hamburg Exchange Program is supported by the Paula M. Trienens Institute for Sustainability and Energy.
In its inaugural year, Northwestern hosted a graduate student from the University of Hamburg’s renowned Integrated Climate Systems Science (ICSS) program to complete a three-month research study. The project focused on tracking health impacts and heat vulnerability in both Chicago and Hamburg. Read more about the ongoing partnership.
