Title: Patterns in the search for patterns

Abstract: In mathematics, we are often searching for patterns. It turns out that there are surprising parallels between the patterns found in different areas of mathematics. I will survey examples of such parallels between number theory and geometry,  beginning with classic analogies between prime numbers and knots; and ending with some more recent examples arising in my own work.
