This body of work delves further into my exploration of adornment in relation to the body and Native American powwow regalia. Growing up having attended many pow wows with my grandmother and sister, I find myself returning to those memories of watching the dancers in their brightly colored and embellished outfits. Each of these outings was marked in my growing collection of earrings, of which we purchased at the many different powwows or markets that we attended.
Through observation and the closer study of my own earring collection, I am continuing to make my fringe pieces. Using different methods of beadwork inspired by the edging of beaded earrings, I create these highly embellished pieces. “Regal Adornment” is the accumulation of my love of earrings, contemporary powwow regalia and the fond memories of attending powwows with my family.
