Harvey Felder, conductor; Sage Chen, violin (Northwestern Concerto Competition winner)
The Northwestern University Chamber Orchestra’s program opens with Copland's John Henry—in the composer's words, a "descriptive fantasy" depicting the folk hero's contest against a railroad pile-driver. Dvořák’s energetic Czech Suite, evoking Czech dances and the Bohemian countryside, continues the program. Concluding the evening is Korngold's lyrical and romantic Violin Concerto in D Major, with featured soloist and Concerto Competition winner Sage Chen.
