The Mivos Quartet “embraces toothy modernism with punk-rock verve,” declares the New York Times’ Steve Smith. Since its founding in 2008, the quartet has performed and collaborated with a wide range of established and emerging composers, regularly presenting multimedia projects and performing improvised music. Their ongoing projects include jazz trumpeter Ambrose Akinmusire, guitarists Hadav Lev and Mary Halvorson, and vocalist Cécile McLorin Salvant. The group has performed to critical acclaim at the Aldeburgh Festival, Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Germany’s Elbphilharmonie, Shanghai New Music Week, and the Lucerne Festival. In this performance, the ensemble showcases new music by Bienen student composers Jasmine Thomasian, Mya Vandegrift, Helen Feng, Jianing Yang, Carlos Bandera, and Gen Tanaka.
