Title: Topology of Real Algebraic Varieties
Abstract: I will explain a bunch of fun facts about manifolds cut out by real polynomials. I am aware that the field of real numbers is not algebraically closed, but be not afraid:) We will encounter familiar names such as Nash, Thom, and Milnor. I requested Daniel Mallory to announce this talk, and the reason is 2-fold (pun intended). Firstly, he usually works over the complex numbers. Secondly, the talk will heavily feature his academic grandfather. See you there!
Note: The talk will start at 4:10 pm
