This workshop, organized by the Language Faculty Development Committee of the Council on Language Instruction (CLI) is designed for language instructors seeking to navigate academic publishing. Participants will explore various publication types, including journals, edited collections, and conference proceedings, while gaining insight into the editorial process, peer review, and ethical considerations. The session will highlight common pitfalls, such as unclear research questions and weak theoretical frameworks, and provide strategies for successful submissions. Through a Q&A session and an optional interactive exercise analyzing a mock submission, attendees will engage directly with editorial expectations. A curated list of academic publishers for language instructors will also be provided.
The event will take place via Zoom: https://northwestern.zoom.us/j/5236511748
Guest speaker: Dr. Ana C Thomé Williams, Professor of Instruction, Director of the Portuguese Language Program and editor of the Journal of Intercultural Communication Studies.
