Kate Smith, Ph.D.
Associate Professor
Department of Pharmacology
University of Colorado, Denver
A neuroscience researcher studying synaptic function, Dr. Smith has always been passionate about how discoveries can advance understanding of neurological diseases and aid drug development. Seven years into a tenure-track position at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, this work became deeply personal when their 4-year-old son was diagnosed with autism, ADHD, and anxiety.
In this informal talk, Dr. Smith will share how their son's symptoms profoundly impact family life, the journey to diagnosis, and the role of medication and therapies. The challenges are immense, the joys profound, and this experience has only strengthened their commitment to research and advocacy.
