Title: Hospital Ownership and Quality of Care
Abstract: We examine the impacts of for-profit ownership on hospital quality of care, primarily measured by readmission, costs, and mortality. Using an instrumental variables strategy to mitigate patient selection into hospital type, we find that for-profit hospitals have slightly worse outcomes.
