Title: Multiplicity of a singularity
Abstract: One way of studying an affine (non-compact) singularity is to zoom into it. That is, "deform to the tangent cone." To this tangent cone one can associate a number called the Hilbert-Samuel multiplicity which measures how singular the original point was. I will discuss generalizations of both of these concepts, and connections to the projective (compact) setting.
Note: The talk will start at 4:10 pm
