This is the first lecture of Simon Becker's minicourse on continuous Schrödinger operators.
Title: The tight-binding reduction.
Abstract: We explore a general tight-binding approximation for semiclassical continuous Schrödinger operators that allows us to reduce the spectral properties of a continuous Schrödinger operator to an infinite-range discrete operator with analytic potentials. This crucially relies on semiclassical methods developed by Helffer-Sjöstrand.
