Description:

Part of the Segovia Classical Guitar Series

Described as "the clearest case of genius ever to touch his instrument" by the Toronto Globe and Mail, lutenist Paul O’Dette has helped define the technical and stylistic standards to which 21st-century performers of early music aspire. His performances at the major international festivals in cities including Vienna, Barcelona, Tokyo, and Melbourne have often been singled out as the highlights of those events. O’Dette is an active conductor of Baroque operas and has made more than 155 recordings, winning extensive acclaim; he is a two-time winner of the Grammy, a twelve-time winner of the Diapason d’Or, and a two-time winner of the Echo Klassik award. In addition to his activities as a performer, O’Dette is an avid researcher, having worked extensively on the performance and sources of seventeenth-century Italian and English solo song; Italian, German, and French Baroque opera; basso continuo practices; and instrumental music.

Aaron Sheehan is a Grammy Award-winning tenor recognized internationally as a leading interpreter of Baroque repertoire. Equally adept at performing in concert and opera settings, he performs repertoire ranging from medieval monody to twentieth-century masterworks. Sheehan made his professional operatic debut with the Boston Early Music Festival in Johann Mattheson’s Boris Gudenow, and continued with roles in Psyché, Acis and Galatea, Orfeo, and Orlando, among others. Sheehan has appeared on over 35 recordings, including the titular role in La descente d’Orphée aux enfers, which won in the category of Best Opera Recording at the 2015 Grammy Awards. His opera and concert appearances include diverse international venues such as the Tanglewood Festival, Lincoln Center, Royal Opera at Versailles, and the Handel Halle Festival.
