Title: Aspects of quantum gravity for a mathematical audience

Abstract: Popular science tells us that unifying quantum mechanics and gravity is the holy grail of modern physics. I will try to explain some aspects of where the challenge mainly lies, from a mathematical point of view. I will then talk about a “realistic” toy model of quantum gravity in dimension two, known as timelike Liouville field theory, and two recent preprints that develop a rigorous framework for this theory and establish a number of exact results.
