Harvey Felder, conductor
Wagner’s symphonic poem Siegfried Idyll, originally written as a birthday gift for his wife after the birth of their son, exudes romance and vulnerability with its sweeping strings. Gabriela Lena Frank’s contemporary Elegía Andina explores the composer’s multi-ethnic background, drawing inspiration from Peruvian zampoñas, or double-row panpipes. Mozart’s Symphony No. 31 in D Major brings the concert to a stately and elegant conclusion.
