Title: Rank conjectures in algebra and topology

Abstract: This talk concerns a family of conjectures in algebra and topology concerning lower bounds on Betti numbers, of either finite free complexes over local rings or spaces admitting certain group actions. The focus will be on recent joint work with Keller VandeBogert, which gives progress on these conjectures in characteristic two.
