The Health Programs Student Leadership Council (SLC) is excited to host Dr. Rany Aburashed for his presentation, “From Medicine to Innovation: Bridging Clinical Practice, Research, and Health Tech Leadership,” taking place via Zoom on October 21, 2025, at 5:00 PM CST. In this session, Dr. Aburashed will share how he has bridged the worlds of clinical practice, scientific research, and health tech leadership, taking an unconventional path that breaks the mold of the traditional clinician career to step into leadership roles. The event will conclude with an open Q&A, where he will discuss his career journey, how he identified and addressed gaps in healthcare, and how you can apply similar strategies to carve out your own niche in the field.
Dr. Aburashed is the CEO and Founder of Neurogen Biomarking and serves as the Corporate Chief Medical Officer and Chief of Sub-Specialty Services at Insight. He completed his undergraduate studies in psychology and world religion at Albion College, graduating with honors, and went on to earn his doctorate from Michigan State University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine, where he received the Michigan Medical Grant. After completing his neurology residency, he served as chief resident at Michigan State University/Sparrow Hospital. Following his training, Dr. Aburashed founded Memorial Healthcare’s Institute for Neurosciences and Multiple Sclerosis, later serving as Chair of Neurology and Chair of Specialty Services at Memorial Healthcare before joining Insight’s executive leadership team.
He has extensive research experience in neuroimmunology, serving as principal investigator on more than 40 phase 1-4 clinical trials. He is best known for his work using single-molecule array assay technology to assess protein biomarkers in multiple sclerosis patients, with a primary research focus on precision disease management using neurofilament light and biomarker profiles. Dr. Aburashed has also been featured on CNN, Nasdaq, Yahoo News, USA Today, Maxim, Apple News, and other outlets, and he lectures nationally and internationally on his work.
