Title: The role of BB0323 in the localization of FtsZ in Borrelia burgdorferi'.
Description: The causative agent of Lyme disease, Borrelia burgdorferi, has a complex cell cycle that involves the coordinated production of multiple zones of peptidoglycan synthesis that are spatially and temporally regulated through unknown processes. We’ve identified a protein of unknown function that appears to function as a negative regulator of both divisome assembly and zonal peptidoglycan synthesis. Our findings provide new insights into the complex cell cycle of B. burgdorferi and hint at a novel mechanism in which the site of cytokinesis is determined by the unusual architecture of the peptidoglycan cell wall.
