Harvey Felder, conductor
Schubert’s Overture in C Major in the Italian Style opens the concert; the piece was his contribution to the trend of overtures written in the style of the wildly popular Gioacchino Rossini. Huang Ruo’s Tipping Point brings listeners to the present with a timely symphony tackling the climate crisis. Ralph Vaughan Williams’s lively The Wasps: Aristophanic Suite closes the evening, written for a production of Aristophanes’s satirical ancient Greek play The Wasps.
