Anna Vlasits, PhD, is a neurobiologist studying retinal function in health and how the retina is altered in neurodevelopmental disorders. She received her PhD in Neuroscience from the University of California, Berkeley, with advisor Marla Feller, where she focused on how neurons in the retina detect motion. She did postdoctoral research with Thomas Euler at the University of Tuebingen, Germany, and with Tiffany Schmidt at Northwestern University. In Tuebingen, she studied how motion and color are processed by the retina. Her work at Northwestern explored altered visual processing and behavior in a mouse model of Fragile X syndrome. Dr. Vlasits's research has been recognized with awards from the Knights Templar Eye Foundation, L'Oreal/UNESCO prize for women in science, Research to Prevent Blindness Foundation, and the Brain Research Foundation.
