Colloquium: Daniel Green: "Signals of a Quantum Universe"

Friday, May 1, 2026 | 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM CT
Technological Institute, L211, 2145 Sheridan Road, Evanston, IL 60208 map it

The idea that structure in the Universe was created from quantum mechanical vacuum fluctuations is compelling but unproven. Testing this proposal has been challenging because the Universe, on cosmological scales, is effectively classical. I will explain how quantum fluctuations can give rise to the density fluctuations we observe and show how this hypothesis can be tested using the statistical properties of maps of the Universe
