Dr. Jazmin Brown-Iannuzzi will present for the Human Development and Social Policy Brown Bag on Tuesday, February 24, 2026. Dr. Brown-Iannuzzi is an Associate Professor of Psychology and Public Policy in the Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy at the University of Virginia.

Talk title: Bridging Individual and Systemic Bias: Social Cognitive Pathways and Interventions

Abstract: Racial and ethnic inequality remain one of the most persistent and pervasive challenges in American society. While there is evidence of racial progress, racial disparities still persist in almost all areas of life. This talk will discuss psychological mechanisms which contribute to the perpetuation of these inequalities, and ways we can potentially impact these psychological mechanisms with the hopes of motivating people to eliminate these inequalities.

Biography: Jazmin Brown-Iannuzzi’s research seeks to understand why social group disparities may persist, and in some cases grow. In order to address this question, she uses her training in social psychology to investigate the psychological mechanisms which perpetuate group-based inequalities and the consequences of status-related disparities.
