Join us for the opening reception of our annual community show which brings together artists from Northwestern, Evanston and greater Chicagoland communities to display their works in a group show.
Art has been used throughout human existence as a unifying force and a wordless language to represent our curiosities, communities, and aspirations. However, artistic spaces and practices have not always been inclusive or accessible to everyone. For this community show, we invited artists to consider how their perspectives could be integrated to manipulate and redefine art in spaces in order to reclaim personal identities, art practices, and cultures that have complex histories. Pieces were selected by how well they explored how creativity could be exercised to navigate the world and take ownership of reality. Artists were encouraged to consider stepping outside of the traditions of academic art to notice what they encounter in day-to-day life that could be considered art.
