This event is part of the speaker series “Histories and Trajectories of Capital In Turkey.”

 

Görkem Akgöz is an award-winning global historian specialising in the intersection of labour, gender, and state-making. She is a research fellow at the International Institute of Social History. Her research explores the global history of labour, gender, and political economy, with a critical focus on the “Global South”. Her monograph, In the Shadow of War and Empire (2024), published in Brill's Studies in the Social History of the Global South series, received the 2025 Hagley Prize in Business History. She is a member of the Editorial Committee of the International Review of Social History, co-chair of the Labour Network of the European Social Science History Conference, and co-coordinator of the “Workplaces: Pasts and Presents” working group of the European Labour History Network.
