Join NU SPIE for a seminar on “Unconventional Chiral Semiconductors Inspired by Nature” by Dr. Pradeep Kodimana Ramakrishnan from Prof. Mercouri Kanatzidis and Prof. Richard Schaller group in Department of Chemistry on Wednesday, Feb 25 from 12:30-1:30 pm in Tech L440.
Abstract:
Chirality - the structural “handedness” found throughout nature - is emerging as a powerful design principle in semiconductor materials. In this talk, I will introduce a new family of Chiral Nicotinium Metal-Halide crystals that exhibit unconventional photophysical behavior distinct from traditional hybrid semiconductors. Using a combination of materials design and advanced optical spectroscopy, we uncover unusual emission pathways, strong light-matter coupling, and symmetry-driven optical responses.
These findings highlight how molecular chirality can be leveraged to engineer semiconductor properties beyond conventional band-structure approaches, opening new opportunities for photonic technologies, circularly polarized light generation, and quantum-inspired optoelectronic platforms.
