From Deterrence to Deference: The West and the New Dynamic in the Russian War in Ukraine

February 24 marked the fourth anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. While the past year has seen little movement in the military situation, there’s been a tremendous change in the U.S. approach. No longer does the U.S. lead the West’s efforts to isolate Russia and support Ukraine with robust arms packages. Now, the US has adopted the role of mediator between the sides. To discuss the new dynamics in the conflict we have NU professors Olga Kamenchuk, Yohanan Petrovsky-Shtern, and William Reno; Amb. Ian Bond of the Centre for European Reform, and Professor Tymofiy Brik of the Kyiv School of Economics. The discussion will be moderated by Ian Kelly, Ambassador in Residence.
