The program opens with Wagner’s romantic and sweeping Prelude to Act III of Lohengrin. Concerto Competition winner Hiu Sing Fan joins the ensemble for Jean Sibelius’s Violin Concerto in D Minor, Op. 47. Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 11 in G Minor, Op. 103 (The Year 1905), a cinematic ode to the Russian Revolution of 1905, concludes the evening.
