Illinois Primary Election Day

Tuesday, March 17, 2026 | 6:00 AM - 7:00 PM CT

The 2026 Midterm Primaries are here! From March through September, primary elections in all 50 states will determine future US Senators and Representatives in Congress, Governors and other state executives, state legislators, local officials, and more. This is your chance to shape the candidates, party, and government you are excited to vote for in the general election.

The Illinois Primary Election is on Tuesday, March 17. NU Votes encourages all eligible students, staff, and faculty to register and vote. Students have the right to register and vote at their campus/local address or at their home/permanent address. To vote in the Illinois Primary, you can register and vote early (through March 16) at sites throughout Evanston and Chicago, or on Election Day (March 17) at your local polling place. You can still register and vote at the same time with two forms of ID (proof of identity and proof of address).

To vote in your home state’s primary, NU Votes can help you check or update your voter registration, request a ballot to vote by mail, or make a plan to vote in person. Learn more about the primaries, what’s on your ballot, and how to register and vote at nuvotes.org.
