Title: History of stable degeneration

Abstract: Stable degeneration is a tool that associates to every mild singularity, a canonical conical singularity with nice differential geometry. Two fields where stable degeneration has found great success include: moduli of Fano varieties, and the minimal model program. This package was initiated by Li in 2015 (published 2018), and completed by Xu and other algebraic geometers in 2022 (published 2025). I will outline its history starting from 2006. In particular, I will point out fundamental works of Székelyhidi, and Liu.

Note: The talk will start at 4:10 pm
