Art has been used throughout human existence as a unifying force and a wordless language to represent our curiosities, communities, and aspirations. However, artistic spaces and practices have not always been inclusive or accessible to everyone. For this community show, we invited artists to consider how their perspectives could be integrated in order to redefine art in spaces and to reclaim art practices, identities, and cultures that have complex histories. Exhibited pieces explore how creativity can be used as a tool to navigate the world and take ownership of reality. Through stepping outside of the traditions of academic art and taking notice of what is encountered in day-to-day life, these artists expand what is defined as art.
