Title: “Pathogens as Cell-Biology Tools.”
Description: In the Mukherjee lab, we study Legionella pneumophila, the causative agent of Legionnaires’ disease. Legionella pneumophila employs an impressive arsenal of over 300 secreted effectors to subvert and manipulate nearly every fundamental eukaryotic cell biological process. For this reason, our research sits at the crossroads of mammalian cell biology and Legionella pathogenesis. We use Legionella and its effectors as tools to make fundamental discoveries in cell biology.
