Join the Colonial Latin American Studies Working Group for a Workshop in Latin American Indigenous Studies on April 23rd from 12pm-3pm!
The event will include two parts: a 12-1:30pm roundtable in Kresge Hall 3-535 with lunch provided, followed by a lesson in Older Nahuatl from 2pm-3pm in Kresge Hall 2-440.
During the roundtable, faculty and students will discuss theories and methods for researching Indigenous literatures, languages, cultures, and histories from within the disciplinary framework of Latin American Studies. We will focus on pre-circulated readings and the research and teaching experiences of speakers and attendees.
The roundtable discussants will include Jorge Coronado, Juan Fernando León, Esbi West (Northwestern), as well as John Sullivan (IDIEZ). The Roundtable will be moderated by Caroline Egan and Mariajosé Rodríguez Pliego (Northwestern).
Following this lunchtime roundtable, Professor John Sullivan (IDIEZ) will offer an introductory lesson in Classical Nahuatl.
This workshop is organized by the Colonial Latin American Studies Working Group, and co-sponsored by Latin American and Caribbean Studies, the Department of English, the Alice Kaplan Institute for the Humanities, and the Department of Spanish and Portuguese.
