The Roberta Buffett Institute for Global Affairs hosts running colloquia for graduate students to present their research to globally engaged faculty and fellow students. In this colloquium, Economics PhD candidate Tim Seida will present his dissertation research on "Impacts of Hungarian Family Policies." Q&A will follow, with lunch provided.
This research empirically quantifies the impact of family policies on fertility and other outcomes, using Hungary’s extensive programs as a laboratory. Leveraging quasi-experimental econometric methods and rich census micro-data, this project answers the research question: do Hungary’s mortgage and credit programs increase birth rates, and what broader economic effects do they generate?
