Abstract:

Publishing in Nature-branded journals can be a daunting task. This talk aims to convey a
better understanding of what the Nature family editors look for when deciding which
paper to publish, what the key editorial differences are between Nature, the Nature
Research journals, Nature Communications, and other journals in the portfolio, and how
to write a paper for a Nature journal. It will also touch upon how editors make decisions at
every step of the editorial process and cover some of the benefits of open access.

Speaker Profile:

Dr. Kristina Maria Kareh, Senior Editor at Nature
Kristina joined Nature in November 2021. Prior to that, she was a senior editor at Nature
Reviews Methods Primers from August 2020 and an editor at Nature Communications
from March 2017. She completed her MEng and PhD at Imperial College London, where
she investigated real-time deformation of semi-solid aluminium-copper alloys using
synchrotron X-ray tomography. She continued on at Imperial College as a postdoctoral
scientist imaging semi-solid steels and solid oxide fuel cells. At Nature, she handles
manuscripts spanning all areas of material science, including metallurgy, structural
material science, computational material science, nanomaterials, and mechanical
metamaterials. Kristina is based in the London office.
