Determining your career path is a critical process that all graduate students and postdocs face. And it is never too early to start preparing for your graduate internship or future job!
This workshop is designed to help you plan and prepare for your industrial internship or job search. Dr. Pete Ellingson from The Procter & Gamble Company will discuss the skills and attributes that industry employers look for in candidates, provide tips and examples for writing a winning resume and an impactful research summary, and offer advice on how to successfully navigate through the interview process.
This event is open to PhD students of all years and postdocs in Chemical and Physical Sciences, Engineering, Life Sciences, Computer, Data & Information Sciences, and other STEM fields. Workshop attendees will also have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with Pete or Shameika on the afternoon of May 12th in the Engineering Career Development Office, Ford Design Center, First Floor, 1.200, to get feedback on your resume and research summaries. If you would like to get feedback, please upload your resume and research summary and sign up to meet with them. One-on-one resume reviews are limited and will be scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis.

Pete Ellingson received his PhD in Physical Chemistry from UW-Madison in 1994. At P&G, his career has spanned >31 years. He’s currently an R&D Director & Open Innovation Manager in Corporate R&D. In this capacity, he frequently engages with Northwestern’s Corporate Engagement Office on partneship opportunities. From 1994 to 2018, he held a variety of R&D roles in P&G’s Beauty Care and Baby/Feminine Care business units. Pete now also leads P&G’s North America PhD Recruiting effort and serves on a few external advisory boards.
Shameika Wilmington received her PhD in Biochemistry and Cell Biology from Northwestern University in 2016, in the department of Molecular Biosciences. She immediately joined P&G and today is a Director in R&D Global Product Stewardship, located in Boston at the Gillette World Shaving Headquarters. She leads the global regulatory affairs team and partners with R&D, engineering, & business teams to help bring innovative grooming products to market while meeting regulatory requirements. Shameika’s role includes cross-functional work with product teams to translate complex regulations into practical solutions, while developing unique strategies to protect P&G externally. Shameika is a strong advocate for mentoring and STEM engagement, and enjoys helping high school, college, and graduate students understand the many career paths available for Scientists and Engineers in Industry.
