The Havey Institute for Global Health Seminar Series is held the first Wednesday of each month, September through July, and features the research and ideas of outstanding global health leaders at Feinberg, the larger Northwestern community, and beyond.

Rajni Gunnala has worked in the international and domestic public health sectors for almost 20 years. She is a board certified Pediatrician, who holds a MD/MPH dual degree from the University of Arizona, and also completed the CDC's Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) fellowship. She currently serves as Physician Epidemiologist for the southwestern region of Indian Health Service, where she supports pediatric primary care at rural facilities and also coordinates public health surveillance and field epidemiology activities. Previously, she served as Medical Officer on the Pediatric and Maternal HIV team for the Bureau of Global Health at USAID, focusing on programmatic elements to improve patient continuity of care within fragmented health systems. Gunnala also previously worked as a Medical Officer for the CDC in the Global Immunization Division, supporting outbreak response efforts for Ebola, Polio eradication and Measles elimination in West Africa. During EIS, her epidemiologic work focused on international maternal and child malnutrition. Prior to joining federal service, she worked for several years in Lesotho as a Pediatric HIV specialist and clinical mentor with Baylor College of Medicine’s Pediatric AIDS Initiative. Gunnala is passionate about building sustainable systems and workforce capacity, while supporting the prevention of clinical disease through patient education and empowerment.
