Sacred Place

A. J. Keller, conductor

University Chorale explores the concept of the sacred through transcendent music of nature, love, and communal ritual. The centerpiece of the program is Alex Berko’s magnificent Sacred Place, an “ecological service” in which secular poetry about the natural world is filtered through the formal structure of a traditional Jewish prayer service. Together with works by Judith Weir, Eric Whitacre, Matthew Recio, and others, the program invites listeners to consider how experiences of wonder, reverence, and connection continue to shape our understanding of the sacred in the modern world.
