This hands-on workshop shows participants how to integrate a chat-based AI coding assistant into their daily research programming. It focuses on practical use cases: generating code from natural language prompts, brainstorming methods and approaches, suggesting libraries or functions, and troubleshooting code through guided debugging. Real-world examples and live coding practice help attendees develop effective prompt strategies and learn to interpret and refine the AI’s suggestions. The workshop stays tool-agnostic and does not delve into coding agents, highlighting immediate, human-in-the-loop techniques. Participants will leave with a toolkit of AI-aided approaches to accelerate their projects.
Prerequisites: Basic coding skills in Python, R, or another coding language. Participants need either a free or paid account to ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, GitHub Copilot, or other chatbots.
