Speaker: Wei Wong; Deputy Editor of Science Signaling at the American Association
Bio: Dr. Wong obtained all her degrees from the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Toronto. Her Ph.D. thesis was on the protein-protein interactions that determine the localization of voltage-gated potassium channel. In 2003, she moved to Portland, OR to be a postdoctoral fellow in the Scott lab at the Vollum Institute, where she researched several A-kinase anchoring proteins in different cell types and tissues. Currently, she is a Deputy Editor from Science Signaling and has been with the journal since Obama was elected president (the first time).
Lecture title: An Editor's Perspective on the Manuscript Process, Scientific Writing, and Life After the Bench
Abstract: Dr. Wong’s talk will cover three topics. The manuscript process at the Science family of journals, focusing on Science Signaling. Next, using the title and Abstract, explaining how she approaches science communication and editing. Finally, she will describe her journey from lab scientist to editor.
