Presentation:
"Mechanisms and Roles of Striatal Neuromodulatory Transmission "
Striatal neuromodulators, for example monoamines, control movement, motivation and reward. These modulatory transmitters code information on various spatiotemporal scales. The presentation will focus on our progress in understanding striatal neuromodulatory transmission mechanisms, and on the roles of these transmitters in the modulation of striatal function. I will discuss recent findings on the molecular machinery that controls their secretion, present data on the transcellular organization of modulatory transmission, and evaluate how the various systems might interact with one another. In the long-term, our work will allow for a better understanding of the mechanisms and time scales of striatal neuromodulation in health and disease.
