The posters in this exhibition are selected from Hamid Naficy’s Iranian Movie Poster Collection, recently acquired by the Northwestern University Archives. Dating from the 1960s to 2010, the posters in the collection document the social history of film in Iran and offer a unique visual representation of over a half a century of dramatic political turmoil and change.
This exhibition has been curated by Hamid Naficy, Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani Professor in Northwestern University’s School of Communication, in collaboration with the Block Museum’s Curator of Media Arts, Michelle Puetz; Simran Bhalla, PhD candidate in Screen Cultures; Azadeh Safaeian, PhD candidate in the Comparative Literary Studies Program; and the students in Professor Naficy’s Winter 2016 course “National Cinemas: Iranian Art House Cinema and Visual Culture.” This exhibition has been generously supported by the Alsdorf Gallery at the Block Museum Endowment Fund.
