In response to recent events, the Legal Studies team wants to offer something substantive during this historic moment, so we have decided to offer an informal movie and conversation series this summer. We will watch the entire series, “Eyes on the Prize”, and meet to discuss on Mondays at 5pm CST from June 29 - August 20, 2020.
“Eyes on the Prize” is a 14 hour documentary series (14 one hour episodes) about the Civil Rights movement in the United States from 1954-1984 produced by PBS. You can stream the series free at facinghistory.org. (You need to create an account and choose Northwestern University [Evanston] as your institution.)
The group will watch 2 episodes on their own (asynchronously) anytime during the week and then we will have a 1 hour Zoom discussion to discuss what we watched and learned. The 1 hour WILL NOT be a class with a professor talking – it will be a conversation about what we learned and how this helps us understand the current moment.
If you would like to join the movie discussion group, please email Laura Beth Nielsen to get the zoom meeting link.
If you don’t want to watch and discuss it with a group, we still highly recommend this series for the historical context of protest, uprisings, politics, law, and racial justice.
