Description:

We live at a time of the greatest progress amongst the global poor in human history. Never before have so many people in so many developing countries made so much progress in reducing poverty, improving health, increasing incomes, expanding health, reducing conflict, and encouraging democracy. Steven Radelet will discuss the unprecedented progress over the last two decades, why it happened, and what it may portend for the future.

About the speaker: Steven Radelet is the Donald F. McHenry Chair in Global Human Development at Georgetown University and a Non-Resident Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution. His book, The Great Surge, explains how we can fight the changing tides of climate change, resource demand, economic and political mismanagement, and demographic pressures to accelerate development around the world.

This is part of the Buffett Institute Global Development Speaker Series.
