Born José Miguel Sánchez Gómez,Yossassumed his pen name in 1988, when he won Cuba’s PremioDavid in the science fiction category for his novelTimshel. He has since become one of the most prolific writers in Cuba (in any genre), publishing more than a a dozen novels and books of short stories, as well as numerous anthologies. Earning a degree in Biology in 1991, he went on to graduate from the first ever course on Narrative Techniques at the OnelioJorge Cardoso Center of Literary Trainingin1999. He is an active member of Cuba’s Writers and Artists’ Union (UNEAC) and the Cuban science fiction literary workshops Espiraland EspacioAbierto.
