Description:

Tina Tchen is an alumna of Northwestern University, Pritzker School of Law.

Tina Tchen is a former Assistant to President Barack Obama and was Chief of Staff to First Lady Michelle Obama. During her eight years at the White House, Tchen also served as the Executive Director of the Council on Women and Girls, leading the first-ever White House Summit on Working Families, as well as the first-ever United State of Women Summit. She was the first Director of the White House Office of Public Engagement during the Obama Administration.
Tchen was previously a partner in corporate litigation at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP. In her capacity, Tchen represented corporate clients in commercial litigation, securities matters and internal investigations. She also represented public agencies in state and federal class actions, including the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, the Illinois Department of Public Aid, and the Chicago Housing Authority. Tchen also served as a Managing Director of the American Bar Association Section of Litigation; Chair of the Board of the Field Foundation of Illinois and of the Chicago Bar Foundation; and was a member of the Board of Directors for the Chicago Public Library, the University of Chicago Medical Center, the Chicago Foundation for Women, and the Chinese American Service League.
Tchen is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Leadership Award from the Women’s Bar Association of Illinois (1999); Women of Achievement Award from the Anti-Defamation League (1996); and Chicago Lawyer Person of the Year (1994).
