Description:

Dr. Deborah E. Lipstadt is the Dorot Professor of Modern Jewish and Holocaust Studies at Emory University. Her academic career spans 40 years of research and writing. An accomplished author, Dr. Lipstadt's book, "History on Trial: My Day in Court with a Holocaust Denier," recounts the story of her libel trial in London against David Irving, who sued her in 1996 for calling him a Holocaust denier and right-wing extremist. The book was recently adapted into the blockbuster film, "Denial," starring Rachel Weisz, Tom Wilkinson, and Timothy Spall.

Appointed by Presidents Clinton and Obama to the United States Holocaust Memorial Council, she was asked by President George W. Bush to represent the White House at the 60th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz.

Cosponsored by the Office of the President, the Crown Family Center for Jewish and Israel Studies, the Buffett Institute, Medill, Office of Religious and Spiritual Life, Holocaust Education Foundation at Northwestern, Department of History, and Jewish Law Students Association.
