Description:

The success in obtaining research funding depends on several aspects and, in particular, on the understanding and execution steps of effective grant writing. This talk will be the first of a series that will provide a broad overview on the grant writing process, with specific focus on informatics. Topics will include fundamentals of good grant writing, preparation of a grant application, funding mechanisms, roles and responsibilities of a principal investigator, how to interpret and respond to reviewer’s comments, analysis of reviews and strategies for response and re-application.

Dr. Starren has served on multiple NIH, NSF, and DOD grant review panels. He has successfully competed as PI or Co-PI for over $100 million in research grants over his career.
