Dr. Hirschhorn is an implementation and quality researcher working in Sub-Saharan Africa to understand how we can better measure and improve the quality of care from the perspectives of the health systems and the community. In this talk, she will talk about some of the progress to that end, including the Lancet Global Health Commission on High Quality Health Systems (where she was a commissioner), as well as the role of interdisciplinary collaboration and implementation research across disciplines to address social determinants, ignite demand, achieve equity, and reach the Global Goals for Sustainable Development.

Lisa Hirschhorn is a professor of medical social science at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. Before coming to Northwestern in October 2017, Dr. Hirschhorn held a number of positions over the last three decades, including director of monitoring, evaluation and quality for Partners In Health in Boston and most recently as director of implementation and improvement science at Ariadne Labs, a health systems innovation partnership between Harvard School of Public Health and Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

The Buffett Institute Faculty & Fellows Colloquium brings together an interdisciplinary audience to build awareness of global research on campus. This series promotes dialogue on scholarship and develops a deeper sense of community among Buffett Institute affiliates. Each meeting lasts one hour; lunch is provided.
