CANCELLED: Transit of Mercury 2019

Monday, November 11, 2019 | 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM CT
Dearborn Observatory, 2131 Tech Drive, Evanston, IL 60208 map it

On November 11, 2019, the Sun, Mercury, and Earth will be in such perfect alignment that Mercury will seem to move across the face of the Sun.  Weather permitting, the Dearborn Observatory will hold a public viewing of this "transit" from 9:00 am to noon.  If the skies are clear, we will be using our historic telescope to view this rare event.  (The next transit of Mercury will not happen until the year 2032.)  Please note that a telescope will be needed to see Mercury and that it is NOT safe to view the transit without proper eye protection.  (Sunglasses are NOT safe for observing the transit!)
