Visualizations of confirmed cases and deaths are everywhere, but can they all be trusted? How can a visualization convey a clear message about COVID-19 while faithfully conveying uncertainty around available estimates? Dr. Jessica Hullman, a professor of computer science and journalism at Northwestern University, and Dr. Matthew Kay, a professor of information at the University of Michigan, will critique popular visualizations of COVID-19 and discuss interpretation pitfalls as well as successful strategies for visualizing uncertainty.
