Description:

Please join MENA Studies & Jewish and Israeli Studies for this conversation

*What is the Israeli-Palestinian conflict all about? Why has it escalated now?

*We hear some words all the time in relation to this topic: anti-Semitism, terrorism, occupation, apartheid, settler-colonialism, ethnic cleansing… what do these terms mean in this context? Are they the right words to use? Why or why not?

*How should university students, faculty, and administrators respond on campus to current events in Israel and the Palestinian territories?

Some students hold opposed positions on Israel and the Palestinian struggle, while others worry that they don’t know enough to have a position, at all. How can we have frank, productive, and inclusive conversations about this fraught subject? Join Professors Wendy Pearlman (MENA Studies) and David Shyovitz (Jewish and Israel Studies) in a dialogue in which each, speaking on the basis on their different academic backgrounds, share their perspectives on the current war and its larger context. All students are welcome, whether they are passionately invested in this issue or simply want to learn more.
